Space and Aliens

We have had a fabulous two and a half weeks learning all about Space during our Space/Aliens topic. The children have loved dressing up as astronauts and travelling through space in our role-play  rocket and spaceship. They have enjoyed learning facts about the planets and junk modelling their own spaceships. In the Literacy Room they listened to lots of stories about space and aliens which inspired them to write party invitations, lists, labels and sentences , alongside practising their cursive handwriting and writing CVC words. They also enjoyed writing menus in the alien cafe. We have been busy in the Numeracy Room making our aliens from play dough and counting their eyes, finding 1 more and 1 less with numbers to 15 and beyond. We have used 2D/ 3D shapes to design and discuss shape pictures, as well as measuring length and capacity. The children thoroughly enjoyed our capacity work and may want to mix up and measure out some space potions with you at home! Outside we have been blasting off in our rockets to the moon , practising using chalks to record our numbers when counting down to blast off and making alien tea in our mud kitchen. A real highlight of this topic was our alien dressing up day, it really inspired the children to develop their language and role play which was fabulous to see. Thank you for all your efforts.

Below is a link to a phonics website for children to enjoy. The children are currently learning sounds from phase 2.
